Meanwhile, race favorite Tadej Pogačar maintained his strong grip on the general classification. Pogačar, who is pursuing a historic sweep of all three Grand Tours this season, had previously extended his lead with a dominant solo performance on stage four. The third stage of the race was canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
