New York Woman Charged with IS-Inspired Attack Plot on State Capitol

Authorities have arrested and charged a 35-year-old New York woman, Jessica Bowie, with planning an Islamic State-inspired attack on the state's capitol building in Albany. The Justice Department announced the charges on Thursday, detailing Bowie's alleged intent to deploy an explosive device.

According to Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg, Bowie aimed to kill public officials and cause extensive damage to the building. Her alleged plan also included fleeing to IS-controlled territory in Syria after carrying out the attack. The charges highlight ongoing concerns about domestic terrorism inspired by extremist ideologies.
