Convicted Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladić, 'Butcher of Bosnia,' Dies in Prison

Ratko Mladić, the former Bosnian Serb general convicted of genocide and war crimes for his role in the Bosnian War, has died at the age of 84. Mladić passed away in prison in The Hague, where he was serving a life sentence.

Mladić was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for orchestrating the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II, which resulted in the deaths of over 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys. He was also convicted for his role in the siege of Sarajevo and other war crimes committed during the conflict.
