Guinea Landslide Kills 30; Louisiana Girl Dies from Brain-Eating Amoeba

In a separate incident, an eight-year-old girl in Louisiana has died from a rare and typically fatal brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri. Health officials believe the infection was contracted after the child, Lillian Smart of Ruston, swam in Lake Claiborne. Her death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by certain natural environments and the vulnerability of individuals to uncommon pathogens.
