Severe Weather and Disasters Strike Globally, Prompting Emergency Responses

Eastern Japan experienced unprecedented heavy rainfall, resulting in at least six deaths and leaving thousands stranded at Tokyo's Narita airport. The storm, which hit Chiba prefecture, triggered landslide warnings and power outages, affecting over 20,000 households and prompting evacuation orders for more than 400,000 people. Approximately 45,000 homes lost power as 115mm of rain fell in an hour, nearly the average for the entire month of August. Rescue operations are ongoing as flooding risks remain high despite easing rainfall.
