British Driver Andy Green Sets New Land Speed Record in Hydrogen-Powered Car

British retired Royal Air Force pilot Andy Green set a new land speed record for hydrogen-powered vehicles, reaching 406.320 mph (653.908 km/h) on August 11, 2026. The record was certified by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the international governing body of motor sports. Green, who previously became the first person to break the sound barrier on land, drove a car powered by two hydrogen internal combustion engines with a combined 1,600 horsepower.
