US Military Expands Access to Australian Bases Amid Geopolitical Tensions

New data reveals the United States now controls or has access to over 100 defense facilities across Australia, a significant expansion that some analysts are likening to a "colonization" of the continent's military infrastructure. This includes 17 directly controlled facilities and access to 75 Australian-run installations, alongside 18 facilities linked to US defense corporations.

The expanded access facilitates a range of US military activities, from intelligence gathering and satellite data utilization for targeting to extensive training exercises, such as the rotation of 2,500 Marines in the Northern Territory. Furthermore, the US is pre-positioning warfighting assets like Osprey aircraft and establishing logistics hubs stocked with weapons, munitions, and fuel, ostensibly to support potential conflicts in the Pacific region.
