Northern Ireland Schools Mandate Trouser Option for Girls; Assisted Dying Bill Stalls

Northern Ireland's education minister has mandated that all schools must offer girls the option to wear trousers as part of their uniform and for physical education starting next year. This decision revises existing guidelines that previously prohibited female pupils from wearing trousers.

In parallel, an assisted dying bill for England and Wales has failed to pass in the House of Commons. Proponents of the bill attribute its defeat partly to the House of Lords, which had previously introduced numerous amendments, consuming valuable parliamentary time and hindering its progress.
