Canadian Skyrunner Missing During Matterhorn Training

Kalie McCrystal, a Canadian skyrunner from Squamish, British Columbia, has been reported missing during a training session for a record attempt on the Matterhorn. McCrystal, 38, was last seen on Tuesday afternoon after reaching the summit and beginning her descent on the Italian side of the Swiss-Italian border mountain.

McCrystal had been preparing to set a new record for ascending and descending the 14,692-foot peak. The Skyrunner World Series confirmed her disappearance during this critical phase of her preparation. Search efforts are underway for the athlete, who was undertaking a reconnaissance and training mission.
