BBC Anchor Maryam Moshiri Reveals Incurable Blood Cancer Diagnosis

BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri has publicly shared her diagnosis of polycythaemia vera (PV), a rare and incurable form of blood cancer. Moshiri, who has been with the BBC since 2003, received the diagnosis in November 2024 and has been managing the condition, which is treatable.

Polycythaemia vera affects approximately 8,000 people in the UK and is associated with an increased risk of blood clots, potentially leading to strokes or heart attacks. Despite the incurable nature of the disease, Moshiri has continued her work, covering significant global events. She described the condition as leaving her feeling as though her "batteries were taken out."
