Summer Box Office Nears All-Time Record, 'Spider-Man' Dominates

The domestic summer box office is on the cusp of an all-time record, potentially surpassing the $4.756 billion achieved in 2013. As of the end of August, the North American box office has grossed $4.598 billion, making it the second-highest summer on record and positioning it to break the previous high.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" continues its reign at the top, adding another $66.2 million globally in its fifth weekend. The film's cumulative worldwide gross has now reached an impressive $2.33 billion, cementing its place among the highest-grossing films in history. Meanwhile, the mythological epic "Odyssey" debuted strongly with $62.9 million worldwide, while the thriller "The Dog Stars" had a softer opening. The dark comedy "Buddy" also surprised, exceeding expectations in its specialty release.
