Irish athlete Kate O'Connor has secured a gold medal in the heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships held in Birmingham. In other news from the championships, Great Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell was the sole British athlete to qualify for the women's 1500m final, winning her heat. Meanwhile, in the heptathlon, Emma Oosterwegel of the Netherlands took the silver medal with 5,761 points, and Sofie Dokter, also from the Netherlands, secured the bronze with 5,741 points. Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson was unfortunately out of contention for a medal in the heptathlon.
