Hudson-Smith and Newnham shine as GB dominates European Athletics Championships in Birmingham

Great Britain enjoyed a successful evening at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on 12 August, with Matthew Hudson-Smith winning a historic 400m gold on home soil. Hudson-Smith's victory made him the joint-most decorated male athlete in European Championship history. Earlier, Emily Newnham secured silver in the women's 400m hurdles with a personal best, adding to her Commonwealth Games medal from earlier in the year.
