Sony, Warner Music Sue AI Firm Anthropic for Copyright Infringement

Music giants Sony Music and Warner Chappell have filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence company Anthropic, accusing the firm of "blatant theft" and a "brazen campaign" of intellectual property infringement. The lawsuit, lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that Anthropic illegally used "tens of thousands" of copyrighted musical works to train its AI models.

The plaintiffs are seeking substantial damages, requesting up to $150,000 per infringed work and an additional $25,000 for each instance where copyright data was allegedly stripped. This legal action highlights the growing tension between AI developers and content creators over the use of copyrighted material in AI training data, a contentious issue with significant implications for the future of creative industries.
