Bears and Panthers Shatter Scoring Record in High-Octane NFL Opener

The 2026 NFL season kicked off with a record-breaking offensive explosion as the Chicago Bears defeated the Carolina Panthers with a combined score of 96 points. This historic total surpassed the previous record of 88 points set in 2018, marking the highest-scoring season opener in league history.

The Bears' offense, led by quarterback Caleb Williams, was particularly dominant. Williams threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns while also contributing 65 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. The team's 59 points also set a new franchise record for points in an opener, a mark that had stood since 1948. Running back D'Andre Swift added to the offensive onslaught with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns, supported by Kyle Monangai's 100 rushing yards, including a 61-yard touchdown burst. The Panthers, despite the high score against them, also contributed significantly to the offensive fireworks, allowing the Bears to set multiple records.
