Two Former Hungarian Ministers Detained on Bribery and Misuse of Funds Charges

Two former ministers from Viktor Orbán's previous government have been detained following a parliamentary vote to lift their immunity. The ministers are suspected of separate cases involving the misuse of millions of euros in public funds and accepting substantial bribes.

Balázs Hankó, who served as Orbán's culture minister and remains a Member of Parliament for the nationalist Fidesz party, was taken into custody late Monday. He faces accusations of misappropriation of funds, though he has denied any wrongdoing. The detentions come after MPs voted to strip the former officials of their parliamentary immunity, allowing for their prosecution.
