Mike Leigh's 'Tender Loving Care' Dominates San Sebastián, Queer Lisboa Honors 'La Gradiva'

The San Sebastián Film Festival concluded its 74th edition with Mike Leigh's "Tender Loving Care" taking home the prestigious Golden Shell for Best Film and Best Screenplay. The film also secured the Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance for actress Kate O'Flynn. Meanwhile, Marine Atlan's "La Gradiva" emerged as a significant winner at the 30th Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival, clinching both the Best Feature Film and Audience Awards.

Other notable events included the PBS SoCal Fine Cut Festival of Films celebrating student filmmakers from USC, CSUN, and California College of the Arts. The Zurich Film Festival is focusing on maintaining its nimble identity under new ownership, while the London Film Festival is set to host the launch of "The Drive-In," a new streaming platform designed to support independent filmmakers by allowing them to retain intellectual property, audience, and revenue. The Cinemed-Aflamuna Project Incubator will also showcase stories from Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine.
