Nepal Demands Climate Compensation Amidst Devastating Flood Disaster

Nepal is seeking $20 million in climate compensation following a devastating flood disaster that resulted in the deaths or disappearances of over 6,000 people. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has urged the world's major economies, which contribute minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, to acknowledge their responsibility for such catastrophic events.

Scientists believe the climate crisis played a role in the floods, which were triggered by a melting glacier collapse in Tibet, leading to flash flooding in Nepal. The disaster has claimed over 1,300 lives, with more than 5,500 individuals still missing after 12 days of rescue efforts.
