Kākāpō Population Soars to 325 Amidst Record Breeding Season

New Zealand's critically endangered kākāpō parrot has reached a significant milestone, with its population now exceeding 300 individuals for the first time in 75 years. This surge is attributed to a record-breaking breeding season, which saw 90 chicks added to the population as of September 1st, bringing the total to 325. The success is largely driven by the mass fruiting of a native New Zealand tree, which provided abundant food resources for the birds.
