Major League Soccer has issued an undisclosed fine to Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi for slapping an opponent during a recent match against the Philadelphia Union. The incident occurred during the 2-2 draw on Wednesday, when the Argentinian forward struck Quinn Sullivan of the Philadelphia Union around the back of the head.
Reports suggest Messi's action was a reaction to Sullivan allegedly elbowing him after the ball had been played. While the referee intervened at the time, MLS has now taken disciplinary action. Another Inter Miami player, Ian Fray, was also fined for a separate infraction in the same game.
