Iran President Offers Hormuz Reopening Amid UN Accusations Against US, Israel

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the United Nations General Assembly, accusing the United States and Israel of "lawless attacks" on civilian targets. Pezeshkian, the first leader of a nation at war with the U.S. to speak at the assembly, also asserted that Iran would not accept limitations on its nuclear program. The U.S. delegation walked out during his speech, with Pezeshkian countering a previous U.S. description by stating Iran had been a victim of terrorism.

In parallel to these diplomatic exchanges, Iran has presented a conditional offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. This proposal is dependent on the United States reducing military pressure and lifting its blockade on Iranian ports. A senior Iranian official suggested that the Iranian delegation in New York is empowered to re-engage in diplomacy and negotiate terms for ending hostilities, although a meeting between President Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump is not anticipated.
