DRC Ebola Outbreak Spreads to Sixth Province, Poised to Become Deadliest Ever

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has expanded to a sixth province, with a death recorded in Bas-Uele after a man traveled from the affected Haut-Uele province. The Africa CDC director general confirmed the case, marking the first in the previously unaffected area. This development comes as the World Health Organization chief warned that the outbreak, declared on May 15, is on track to surpass the deadliest Ebola epidemic in history, which killed over 11,000 people in West Africa a decade ago. The outbreak has already caused more than 2,000 deaths and thousands of reported cases, with the epicenter in Rwampara, where medical staff describe the situation as dire.
