China-Linked Hackers Target US Agencies; UK Power Plants Face Lingering Cyber Risk

US authorities have disrupted a significant Chinese state-sponsored hacking campaign that targeted critical infrastructure and government agencies, including NASA, the Federal Reserve, and the Senate. The Justice Department announced the seizure of domains used by a Chinese botnet, rendering its command and control servers inoperable and disrupting its ability to conduct further cyberattacks.

Meanwhile, hundreds of small power plants in the UK remain vulnerable to similar state-sponsored cyber threats. Despite a recent Iran-linked hack that temporarily shut down an unnamed gas power plant, government measures to enhance cybersecurity resilience are not scheduled to be implemented until 2030, leaving these facilities exposed to ongoing risks. Separately, a significant percentage of EU software vendors are reportedly non-compliant with upcoming cybersecurity regulations, highlighting a broader vulnerability in the software supply chain.
