Medication Waste and Healthcare Oversight Under Scrutiny

A pharmacy group in England has highlighted a significant issue of wasted medicines, estimating that 3,400 tonnes of partly used medications were disposed of in 2024-25, enough to fill 75 swimming pools. The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) is calling for more regular reviews of repeat prescriptions to address this growing problem. This waste represents both a financial and environmental burden on the healthcare system.
