In a letter to staff, Prentice expressed understanding of the "anger and anxiety around this damaging and difficult case" and confirmed that an independent review into Arday's appointment would be conducted. The university has faced scrutiny over Arday's academic qualifications, which led to his resignation from Cambridge after he became its youngest Black professor in 2023.
